Meet The Maker
Oh hi. Kim here.
Otherwise known as the “Spoon Girl,” “Spoon Lady,” “That Girl Who Makes Stuff on TikTok,” etc. I answer to all of those — but Kim works just fine. So, hi.
I’m here to inspire you in more ways than one. I’m a lover of all things DIY and repurposed, a flea market addict, crafter, photographer, gardener, coffee drinker, pad thai enthusiast, red wine lover, sarcastic morning person (yes, those exist), and proud Mom. Basically, if it involves creating something from nothing, I’m in.
How Spoon Me Started (a little accidentally)
Spoon Me didn’t start with a business plan. It started because life happened.
In 2013, I was going through a divorce and trying to navigate the quiet moments when my then two-year-old wasn’t with me. Anyone who’s lived that season knows how heavy that silence can feel. I needed something to fill the void, to keep my hands busy and my mind from wandering. Creating has always been my outlet, so I leaned into it fully.
I had long been drawn to vintage silverware, always picking pieces up at yard sales and thrift stores, fascinated by their history and imperfections. Around that time, I taught myself how to metal stamp, simply out of curiosity, and quickly became hooked. What started as experimenting soon turned into purpose.
I spent my nights and weekends making keychains. Just keychains at first. I sold them to small businesses, at festivals, and anywhere I could share my work. Over time, those simple pieces evolved into bracelets, necklaces, plant markers, and more. Spoon Me grew naturally, one piece at a time, without a plan but with a lot of heart.
After years of festivals and selling through social media, I decided to move my business to Etsy. I never looked back. What began as a way to cope, heal, and create during a difficult season of life became something far bigger than I ever imagined. Spoon Me is a self-made, self-taught business built with resilience, creativity, and countless late nights.
Giving New Life to Old Things
I’ve always been fascinated by all things vintage, upcycled, and repurposed. At some point, that fascination turned into tinkering with junk silverware — and something about giving new life to old, beaten, tarnished heirlooms just clicked.
It was satisfying. It was therapeutic.
(It’s probably the Pisces in me — always dreaming and finding beauty in the most ordinary things.)
Fast forward a few years, and what once started as a hobby to “pass the time” has grown into a successful, self-made, self-taught small business. Spoon Me creations now live in homes across the country, and I still get a little emotional thinking about that.
A Few Proud Moments (because I earned them)
Thanks to my TikTok journey, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with several brands along the way. Who would’ve thought a dancing app would become such a powerful platform for supporting small businesses. Followers seem to love the behind-the-scenes moments, the real process, and the unfiltered look at how Spoon Me pieces come to life, so you’ll find plenty of that if you follow along.
I’m damn proud of how far this little garage idea has come. There’s been so much growth, so many lessons learned, and so many exciting things still ahead. I’m all in.
“Like wildflowers, you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people never thought you would.”
What Goes Into Every Spoon Me Piece
At Spoon Me, every single piece is 100% handmade by yours truly.
I personally handpick all flatware, then flatten, file, drill, polish, and hand-stamp each piece into a variety of creations — keychains, necklaces, plant markers, bracelets, and more. Whether it’s a spoon or a knife, no part of the silverware goes unused.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind, just like the stories behind them. Gift a personal message, create something custom, or choose a piece that speaks to you. Make it yours. Make it meaningful.
From My Heart to Yours
I believe all things happen for a reason. I believe hardships are lessons meant to make us stronger. I show up every single day with gratitude, and I couldn’t be more humbled by your support.
One day, I hope my daughter takes over Spoon Me — after all, this journey started because of her.
Cheers to inspiring all the fabulous women out there.
XO,
Kim
